The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how structural racism impacts health disparities. It is critical that we address racism to earn trust as we journey towards health equity.
Virtual Reality (VR) can enhance learning by enabling participants to virtually experience challenging clinical encounters. At the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, 112 faculty and staff members experienced a community-based VR racism module that served as a platform for discussing structural racism and inclusion.
Participants in this workshop will shape the development of a new hospital or classroom-based VR experience aimed at building racial empathy to address microaggressions, bias, climate, and structural racism throughout medical organizations.
