$400,000 in Grants Awarded to Advance Health Equity and Build Trust in Health Care

We’re proud to announce that $400,000 in grants has been awarded to 15 medical schools and health systems across the US as part of the Building Trust Through Diversity, Health Care Equity, Inclusion, and Diagnostic Excellence in Internal Medicine Training grant program. This collaborative effort, supported by the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the ABIM Foundation, the American College of Physicians (ACP), and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation,, is dedicated to enhancing medical education and fostering a more equitable and trustworthy health care system.

These grants will fund innovative projects aimed at improving health equity training and addressing systemic biases in medical care. For example, Vanderbilt University Medical Center will create simulation training to improve care for LGBTQ+ patients, while The University of Chicago will develop a curriculum to tackle clinician bias toward patients with sickle cell disease.

In total, nearly $1.6 million has been dedicated to addressing health inequities through this initiative since its inception in 2021. We congratulate the grant recipients and look forward to the positive impact these projects will have on advancing health equity and building a more inclusive and trustworthy health care environment.
