ABIM Foundation Elects New Board Chair and Appoints Three Trustees

The ABIM Foundation today announced the election of Bruce Leff, MD, MACP, AGSF, FAAHCM, as Chair of its Board of Trustees and the appointment of Erin C. Fuse Brown, JD, MPH, Dhruv Khullar, MD, MPP, and Richard M. Wardrop, III, MD, MACP, to the Board. The Board also elected Heather Comer Yun, MD, MACP, FIDSA, as Chair-Elect and Margaret Flinter, APRN, PhD, FAAN, FAANP, as Secretary-Treasurer.

Fuse Brown, Dhruv Khullar, and Richard Wardrop, III bring complementary perspectives across health policy, research, medical education, and clinical leadership. Their experience will help guide the Foundation’s efforts to advance medical professionalism and respond to the evolving challenges facing patients, clinicians, and the health care system.” 

Erin C. Fuse Brown, JD, MPH, is a leading expert in health law and policy, and Professor of Health Services, Policy, and Practice at Brown University School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the intersection of health care finance, health care delivery, and administrative law. She has studied health care consolidation, health care costs, health reform, private equity in health care, Medicare Advantage payment policy, consumer protection, surprise medical bills, federalism and state health policy, and ERISA preemption, and has been published in leading legal and medical journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Health Affairs. She is also a co-author of the leading health law textbook, Health Law (West Academic, 2022).  

Dhruv Khullar, MD, MPP, is a board certified internist and an Associate Professor of Population Health Sciences and of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. He serves as Director of The Physicians Foundation Center for the Study of Physician Practice and Leadership at Weill Cornell and Associate Director of the Cornell Health Policy Center, where he leads the Health Policy Insight Panel, a national survey of distinguished policy scholars that provides timely analysis of key issues shaping U.S. health care. His research examines how medical care is organized, financed, and delivered, with a focus on value-based payment, health care consolidation, and the changing structure of physician practice. Dr. Khullar has received large research grants from both federal agencies and private foundations and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, including articles published in The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Health Affairs. 

Richard M. Wardrop, III, MD, MACP, is the Chief Medical Officer at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) Healthcare, where he is also a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics. A career clinician who is board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Wardrop was previously Program Director of the Internal Medicine Program and Vice Chair of Academic Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He also led the top-rated Combined Med-Peds Residency at the University of North Carolina. He was recognized by the American College of Physicians as one of America’s Top 10 Hospitalists in 2018 and was awarded Mastership in the ACP in 2024, the College’s highest honor. Dr. Wardrop serves as Chair of the ABIM Internal Medicine Board and is a member of the ABIM Council.
